  • Bamboo sushi rolling mat
  • Plastic wrap
  • Sharp knife
  • Rice paddle or wooden spoon
  • Bowl of water for dipping fingers
  • Kitchen towel

  • 2 cups sushi rice rinsed and cooked according to package instructions
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • Fresh salmon fillet sashimi-grade, thinly sliced
  • Soy sauce for dipping
  • Pickled ginger and wasabi for serving

Prepare Sushi Rice:

  • Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  • Cook rice according to package instructions.
  • In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice while it's still warm. Let the rice cool to room temperature.

Prepare Salmon:

  • Ensure the salmon is fresh and sashimi-grade.
  • Thinly slice the salmon into strips.

Set Up Rolling Station:

  • Place the bamboo sushi rolling mat on a flat surface.
  • Lay a sheet of plastic wrap over the mat.
  • Place a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on the plastic wrap.

Assemble Sushi Rolls:

  • Wet your fingers with water to prevent the rice from sticking.
  • Spread a thin layer of sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
  • Lay slices of salmon across the rice.

Roll the Sushi:

  • Using the bamboo mat, start rolling the sushi from the bottom, applying gentle pressure to create a tight roll.
  • Seal the edge with a bit of water.

Slice the Roll:

  • With a sharp, wet knife, slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
  • Clean the knife between cuts to ensure clean edges.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Arrange the Salmon Sushi on a serving plate.
  • Serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi on the side.

Repeat for Additional Rolls:

  • Repeat the process to make additional rolls with the remaining ingredients.

Experiment with different fillings like avocado, cucumber, or cream cheese for added variety.
Make sure the knife is consistently wet to achieve clean cuts.
